About LOVE. . .

I came across an exerpt that detailed about how LOVE is like a drug.

The feeling of excitement, that one experiences during a love relationship, lights up a specific region of the human brain that helps one releive stress or anxiety--similar to the specific function of a drug or cocaine (says the source).

A study checked this out, and found that individuals under stress experienced a releive of this stress as they saw a picture of their loved one. Amazing isn't it!

The studies was conducted in Stanford and recently published in PLOS ONE. This information was obtained from : http://commonhealth.wbur.org/2010/10/love-is-a-drug-an-anesthetic/.

Over-the-counter medications for weightloss can be harmful for you. Over several dozen cases in HongKong has shown the significant health defects that are caused by usage of herbal medications. Of all cases, there was revealed 66 cases of human poisening, 8 cases of major illness, and 1 case of death.

Studies on these medications have revealed harmful as well as unlawful additives uncluded in its composition.

The popular thought is that herbal medicines for weight loss are all natural, and therefore safe. This perception is flawed with two issues: 1) not all natural substances are harmless; 2) the problem of harmful and unlawful components added into the drug without the consumers' knowledge (medicalnewstoday).

Indeed, one should simply stick to a diet low in carbs, high in vitamins (fruits and vegetables), coupled with reguler exercise. Medications holds too many risks.

New studies to detect prostate cancer!

From a recently published primary literature (Oct. 13, 2010), conducted in the UK, was a study that shows that a certain protein found in urine may serve as a marker for diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Found in urine, the protein microseminoprotein-beta (MSMB)is easy to detect which enables simple testing procedures (medicalnewstoday). This protein is produced by prostate cells and secreted into the urine via semen (medicalnewstoday) and functions to regulate cell apoptosis (programmed cell death) which is known to contribute to increasing risks of prostate cancer (medicalnewstoday). The levels of MSMB are not correlated to prostate size but reveals to be accounted for by genetics.

Studies show that males with little change in their MSMB gene are at a greater risk for having prostate cancer (medicalnewstoday).

All, please get your flu shots this season. H3N2 is back and dirty.

This type A influenza subtype H3N2 causes illnesses to humans, birds and other mammals, and kills an estimated 36,000 people in the United States each year (wringdiagnosis.pub).

It has been known to cause pandemics in Hong Kong and other areas. Just recently, there've been cases of outbreak in college students and in childcare settings within the US, confirmed and tested positive through polymerase chain reaction techniques. These patients had connections to traveling outside of Iowa. "In addition to the Iowa outbreaks, between Jun 20 and Jul 23, there were found H3-positive specimens from 11 other states and a 'smaller number of sporadic samples' that tested positive for the 2009 H1N1 and influenza B viruses" (Roos,R. ,CDC).

"The perth-like H3N2 viruses were first identified in early 2009, but have not yet circulated widely in the United States" (Roos,R.). H3N2 emerged in the pandemic of 1968-69, and is forseen to have more severe effects than the seasonal H1N1 virus.

PLASTICS ARE HARMFUL?

Yes, that is true.

Did you know that the production of plastics alone are harmful to the evironment? This is not to mention the recyling and incinerating processes thereafter, which causes an enormous amount of enduring pollution.

One source explains, there is an overwhelming amout of plastic wastes floating around in oceans, causing fish to ingest plastic toxins which could potentially make fish unsafe to eat.

Studies have been conducted to conclude that:

Chemicals added to plastics are absorbed by human bodies. Some of these compounds have been found to alter hormones or have other potential human health effects.
Low quality plastic containers can leach plastic toxins into your food or water, and cause you to ingest them. Others, in common cleaners, can allow your cleaning agent to leach out into the air, and thus allow you to breath in chemical toxins. This most likely will affect the health of weakly-immuned individuals.
Plastic debris, laced with chemicals and often ingested by marine animals, can injure or poison wildlife.
Floating plastic waste, which can survive for thousands of years in water, serves as mini transportation devices for invasive species, disrupting habitats.
Plastic buried deep in landfills can leach harmful chemicals that spread into groundwater.
So, before you take a drink out of that bottled water, or decide upon buying generic brand cleaners or CLOROX's Green works, look under the lable to see these triagled-numbers (1-7) and their descriptions below. Apparently, it seems as though only 2,4 and 5 are safe to use.

1 PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): AVOID
Common Uses: Soda Bottles, Water Bottles, Cooking Oil Bottles
Concerns: Can leach antimony and phthalates

2 HDPE (High Density Polyethylene): SAFER
Common Uses: Milk Jugs, Plastic Bags, Yogurt Cups

3 PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride, aka Vinyl): AVOID
Common Uses: Condiment Bottles, Cling Wrap, Teething Rings, Toys, Shower Curtains
Concerns: Can leach lead and phthalates among other things. Can also off-gas toxic chemicals.

4 LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene): SAFER
Common Uses: Produce Bags, Food Storage Containers

5 PP (Polypropylene): SAFER
Common Uses: Bottle Caps, Storage Containers, Dishware

6 PS (Polystyrene, aka Styrofoam): AVOID
Common Uses: Meat Trays, Foam Food Containers & Cups
Concerns: Can leach carcinogenic styrene and estrogenic alkylphenols

7 Other this is a catch-all category which includes:
PC (Polycarbonate): AVOID - can leach Bisphenol-A (BPA). It also includes ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile), Acrylic, and Polyamide. These plastics can be a safer option because they are typically very durable and resistant to high heat resulting in less leaching. Their drawbacks are that they are not typically recyclable and some need additional safety research. New plant-based, biodegradable plastics like PLA (Polylactic Acid) also fall into the #7 category.

ANSWERS TO THE NOSEBLEED QUESTION.

This post is out to Kaylen.

Previously, a question was asked to Giv2Cure about the symptom of nosebleed and if she should worry about it.

After much research, we can tell you that there is not much to worry about. According to MedicineNet.com, it is common for bloody nose to occur in dry climates, and may occur more frequently during the winter season. This is because the nose, being it "situated in a vulnerable position", contains lots of blood vessels (MedicineNet). During dry times, the nasal tissues can become very dry and cause cracks and to take place, including the development of crusts. It was stated that nose bleeds can occur out of nowhere and with no apparent pain, which I am sure many of you have experienced before.

You can follow the same article through this url:

http://www.medicinenet.com/bloody_nose/symptoms.htm

Somethings that I have tried are as follows: (Please do not try them yourself without prior approval from a Professional Family Physician).

1) When blowing your nose during dry seasons (winter), make sure your nose is moist--try gently sniffing up warm tap water to moisten up the area, yet avoid vigorous sniffing which will cause a burn up the nose--and then blow gently into the tissue.
2) From experience, if the nose begins to bleed, do not apply pressure if the nose is completely dry and stuffed with dry mucous up the nose; doing this may lead to more profuse bleeding. Simply plug the nostril with rolled up toilet tissue, leaving an end sticking out that would be long enough to safely pull back out after bleeding stops. CAUTION: Do not simply ball up the toilet tissue, because it may be hard to pull it back out when bleeding stops. Otherwise, blow it out through the nostril.
3) Another trick I've learned that works every time is to lean your head into to sink and pat the back of your neck with cold tap water. This will eventually stop the bleeding.

See you next time,

More News on Haiti Relief ;)

Friends, I wanted to share this wonderful article with you all, concerning a young and detrmined young lad that took initiative to raise money to help out survivors in Haiti.

Please read the following:

Never underestimate the power of a boy and his bicycle.

A kid from West London, England, started out with a plan – a plan to raise money for kids in Haiti.

“I want to do a sponsored bike ride,” said 7-year-old Charlie Simpson, in a message posted on a website, “because there was a big earthquake and loads of people lost their lives. I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti.

According to published reports, Charlie rode five miles around a park on Sunday.

He hoped to raise 500 British pounds.

That’s approximately 800 US dollars – a pretty good effort for any fundraiser, not to mention a 7-year-old kid.

But when people saw the message Charlie posted on the Internet, contributions started pouring in from as far away as Hong Kong and New Zealand, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

And when the British media picked up Charlie’s story, he got even more contributions.

By Monday night, the BBC reported that Charlie had raised more than 130,000 pounds.

(130,000 pounds is approximately $210,000).

He reportedly plans to donate the money to UNICEF – the United Nations agency that raises money specifically to help kids.

“The little seed – his idea – that he has planted has grown rapidly,” said David Bull, UNICEF UK’s executive director, according to CNN. “On behalf of the many children in Haiti, I thank Charlie for his effort.”

(UK stands for “United Kingdom.” The UK includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.)

According to CNN, the money Charlie has raised will help pay for water, as well as sanitation, education, nutrition and child protection programs.

Charlie’s parents say they’re overwhelmed by the generosity of the people who’ve contributed to his fundraiser.

“Charlie is so grateful to people for sponsoring him,” said his father, Dan Simpson, in an interview with the BBC. “And he is delighted his bike ride has meant UNICEF can help so many children in Haiti.”

All it took was a boy with a bicycle – and a determination to help.

HAITI RELIEF!!!

Hello guys,
I have been reading around and stumbled upon an interesting move to support Haiti relief. Please read the following:

All-star Haiti telethon raises $57 million, so far
By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY, AP Music Writer
Sat Jan 23, 4:18 PM PST

Organizers for the all-star "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon say the event raised $57 million — and counting.

"The public has set a new standard of giving for a relief telethon with 'Hope for Haiti Now,' and the donations continue to come in," Lisa Paulsen, president and CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, said in a statement released Saturday. The group is helping to oversee the funds gathered from the event.

The two-hour telethon aired Friday night on the major networks and dozens of other channels, including MTV, Bravo, and PBS, and was also streamed live online. Stars like Brad Pitt, Beyonce, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and more used their presence to encourage donations for Haiti, following a Jan. 12 earthquake that killed an estimated 200,000 people.

The total released Saturday includes money raised by phone, text and the Web. It does not include donations by corporations or via iTunes, where people are able to buy performances of the event for 99 cents each, or the entire album for $7.99. Those funds also go to Haiti relief.

>>>And word from GIV2CURE, please be sure to visit the "Hope for Haiti" website at:

And make a difference silently by making a donation.

THANKS.

ReThink YOUR Life

Hello Guys,

In fulflling the goal of Giv2Cure, I feel the need to step back and Rethink my life. This step backwards will enable me to better serve my community and families that call for help; the ones in need of assistence.

"Rethink Your Life" by Stan Toler is a book that I recently picked up from Half Priced Books, in Crystal, MN. It first introduces the wills of a christain and goes quite in depth into, what I interpret as, humanity's goal; a person's focus; what one was put on this earth to do.

Think about this and tell me, have you ever thought of the reason why your reside in this very planet? Why were we really placed in this world?; what is our purpose in life?, how do we find happiness?, why does suffering exist?, what accounts for the occurences that do occur in the very day?, why doesn't God fix everything; fix innocent suffering?

Lastly, where do reason arise from?

My response to these is quite simple. We (I) are/am put into this world to justify this corrupted earth; though God created the earth and heavens and saw that it was good, it all has come out of proportion, hasn't it?

To make a long argument short, I would agree with the famous philosopher, Dostoevsky and to some of his arguments given by his short story, The Russain Monk:

God: Some arguments for this position.

1.Free will outweighs anytype of suffering.
2.All part of God's convenant, everything will be shown to be right and just at the end when Jesus comes dpown and sends some to heaven and some to hell (those who deserve it).
3.Future Harmony outwieghs suffering. The suffering now will finally or ultimately lead to FUTURE HARMONY.
4. Suffering builds character; suffering is simply the contrast to helps us understand happiness.
5. Adam ate the apple, the fall of men inhereted sin, inhereted sin is what causes the suffering and we cannot do anyting about that.

Ivan: Some counterarguments for the above arguments.

1. If this (innocent suffering) is the meaning of freewill then God, I don't want it ! take it away and releive us of this innocent suffering, because FREEWILL DOES NOT OUTWIEGH SUFFERING!
2. Jesus will explain everything to me, if God came down and tells me that the tortured little girl was just and good, my rational mind could not possibly grasp of that information. There is not a way that my mind could understand of this explanation, how can it be justified? I can't, I just can't understand it; my rational mind could not take that into understanding, and if this was the case, I now am clueless of the meaning of GOOD and BAD.
3. You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs? Well don't break the egg then because I don't want the omelet.
4. Cannot be forgiving because what about the littleboy that got torn apart?! How did he build his character; how could he build his character, He's Dead!! Maybe his mother could build character from this, but man! that's just CRUEL! What the heck is this! This is crazy! How can one build character on another's suffering.
5. Ridiculous, this is!How can I inheret this from something that happened so lon ago? I wasn;t even around when this happened! How can this be? Adam ate the apple, why blame me for that!!!

Please ask questions if you donot understand. I learned these from my philosophy course, at UST.

Sincerely,

Kerry Xiong

Hello Guys,

Just wanted to shoot out a post. We (Mainhia and Kerry) have been quite busy. If had no been mentioned earlier, we attend University of St. Thomas, and before Christmas, we were currently on winter break. Since we are commuters, we had the opportunity to spend much time with our family during the holiday. To give an update of what we have been up to, we have continued with the eggroll business during Christmas, (and sorry to those who did not receive a "reply" email message; our shedule was pretty tight), and have help support various families by using a portion of the proceedings to purchase presents and meal money for a four children through a program for volunteers (we will provide the name of this at a latter time). This was a wonderful experience and we will keep on finding ways to spark joy in people's lives by doing such acts with all the proceedings earned in the future, along with keeping this blog up and running. Thanks for your time in reading this.

New plans for this new year, 2010, we will strive to earn more money and help out more organizations that funds money for families in need, is in regards to cancer research or funds cure(s), and strives to change lives: just as our goal sets out.

Thanks to eveyone for your support.

See you next time. Leave a comment.
